Welcome to the Winter Newsletter,
The frosts have finally arrived and slowed the grass growth at last. It has been an exceptional growth
season with Todd and his helpers struggling to keep on top of the growth. With Todd's casual helper
James being away due to health issues it has put an extra workload on Todd and our Volunteers.
A special thankyou from us all must go to Bob Mortimer, Neil Lawson and Kevin Longman who are
trained to use the Clubs specialist equipment to maintain the grass growth. These guys have put in
huge hours to keep the Course playable for us all to enjoy. We are very fortunate that they enjoy
working with the machinery.
At let's not forget the extra fuel that has been burnt and the cost of fuel rising.
Also if there are Members that are keen to help out ,now is the time for training .
Please get in contact.
Let's not forget the other Ladies and Men who volunteer their time around the Course
and Clubhouse.

It is poignant to be reminded about practice on the Course. There is a practice area set up to use.
Whilst some enjoy practice on the Course. Please RESPECT our Course. Maximum of TWO BALLS
used. Repair all divots. Repair pitch marks on green including other pitch marks you see please.
There is to be no practice out of bunkers. As members we all have the right to challenge someone
we observe not following these guidelines.

Local Rule in place from last year
'Practice on the Course is banned before a competition organised by Gleniti Golf Club at all times'.
A new Fairway Mower has been ordered. It is a John Deere 7700a. This will greatly reduce the
current R&M bill.
Funding for this has been secured from
Trust Aoraki $20000
New Zealand Community Trust $10000
TAB $8000
We must be very grateful to these organisations, and remember their funding pools have have
been greatly reduced due to Covid. But they were able to find some funds for our Club.
And the exceptional effort from everyone who buys a ticket in the 'Spinning Wheel' raffle.

This machine is a significant purchase for our Club and will last many years.

Thanks to Peter Hayes ,with the backup of a number of Woman members,
a beginners program has been run successfully for the Ladies and they have
continued on to 9 holers.
A program like this for Men would be perfect and if anybody is keen to help out please reach out.
Junior Golf is an area that is growing and has the potential to go further. Aorangi Golf with the
help of Tom Wilson and Peter Hayes are trying their hardest to grow an established good safe
program for Juniors in the district and at Gleniti.
With the help of Jess Reid ( resident teaching Pro at Russley) my daughter has been attending a
coaching session along with 7 other girls at Gleniti. Absolutely fantastic to watch these young
ladies develop their Golf skills over the last 8 weeks.
So bearing all this in mind Gleniti are still looking for a Junior Convenor to help organise a
Junior Program. Peter ,Tom and Jess will be there to assist You as well. If this sounds like
you , please contact myself or a Committee member.
I along with a small Committee attended a forum run by Golf NZ and presented by Stephen Gee.
A fantastic speaker. The forum was about the Future of Golf and The Future of Our Club.
Since Covid Golf membership has increased by quite a bit. Golf rounds have also increased
dramatically. Some Clubs in the North Island have waiting lists, and also charge an 'Entry Fee'
to gain a Membership. Equating to thousands of dollars.
Another interesting thing was some Clubs are not measuring in rounds played but how many balls
have been hit. Given people a so time precious now days some Memberships and Green Fees allow
people to go and play a few holes and go to the bar or go home.
Rules are different as well including throwing balls back inbounds/ out of bunkers etc.
Remembering these golfers are playing their rules and are in no competition.
Something to think about.
A reminder that we all have a responsibility around Health and Safety at Gleniti.
Any near misses need to be reported to Myself, James Thian, Bob Mortimer or
Mike Tutty. Any Health and Safety to do with the driving range needs to be reported
to Peter Hayes.
There are Incident Reporting forms on the H&S board in the Clubhouse beside the
entrance to the Mens toilet area.
