Our greens and tree committees recently did some inspections of some significant trees on the course which have issues. They are very mindful that people can be sensitive when it comes to trees and want to reassure members that they are not just going round ripping out trees but if there is either a H&S issue or damage to course they may have no alternative. They also wish to extend the invitation to anyone to join the tree committee so they may have more understanding
#14 green tree
Although this tree is very picturesque and is a feature of the hole, at coring this year it was discovered how much damage the roots are doing to the green. Bob Mortimer has some photos of this which will be on show in the clubhouse. If there is a protest about the removal of this tree we will have to find a way to relocate the green
Willow by #4 tee and pond
This willow is completely rotten and has to be removed asap before there is an accident
Tree by #18 green
This is an item for discussion. It is impossible to grow grass around the area of this tree which leaves a large brown dry patch which is unsightly both from the course and from the clubhouse. There is a possibility that we may be able to dig out around the tree and replace the soil but this could be quite costly. Please consider this issue and send comments via glenitgolf@xtra.co.nz
